ATTIC REMODELING IS WORTHWHILE

As indicated in Figs. 2 and 4, unimproved attics are dusty, unpleasant and dormant spaces which serve little or no purpose beyond being a catch-all for all sorts of discarded furniture and other items, most of which can be classified as junk. If you need more space for living, whether it be bedrooms or recreation rooms, your attic can be transformed into a bright, cheerful and useful addition to your house. The space is there—going to waste. It needs only your attention to put it to use.

Where do remodeling ideas come from? There are hundreds of ideas available to you in magazines. Material manufacturers will be glad to send you suggestions. Note their advertisements in magazines and newspapers and then write to them. Lumberyards generally have suggestion literature which you can obtain merely by asking for it. Once you have studied such ideas you and your family will quickly formulate other specific ideas which will serve your particular needs.

How To Visualize Attic Remodeling

IF YOU ARE particularly interested in attic remodeling, and for that reason have not read Chapter 6 in connection with basement remodeling, it would be a wise idea for you to give that chapter some attention now. This suggestion is made so that you will understand and be familiar with plan views before giving further consideration to your attic project. Basement and attic plan views are pretty much alike so far as visualization is concerned. In any event, once you have read Chapter 6, you won't have any trouble understanding the plan views necessary for attic remodeling.

SECTION VIEWS

Any house that has attic space also has a sloping roof. Part A of Fig. 1 shows the top part of a typical house and its sloping (pitched) roof. As you know, the attic space is between the roof and the attic floor.
