Why Get Life Insurance?
| By Lee Mayer | Category: Life
The main reason for someone to get life insurance is to give them guaranteed peace of mind that their family, or business partner, has financial protection in the event of their death. If you get life insurance then you are entering into a contract between yourself (the policy holder) and the insurance company (the insurer).
Under the contract terms, a policy holder agrees to pay specified amounts of money at specific intervals. These are known as the life insurance premiums. In return the insurer agrees to pay the named beneficiary a guaranteed sum of money on the death of the policy holder.
Reasons To Get Life Insurance
Of course the first thing to think about when you decide to get life insurance is, “What is my main reason for getting a policy?”. It might be that you want to ensure your mortgage is paid off when you die, that your family does not miss out on the salary you would have brought home, or maybe it is to see that your children’s education will not suffer in the future by making sure that college fees can be met.
However, it is not as simple as thinking, “I will get life insurance.”, and taking out a policy as there are different types of policy available. The type of policy someone takes out will depend upon their circumstances and the reason they actually need the coverage:
- Term Life Insurance is also sometimes referred to as “pure insurance”, because it does not have a cash value associated it. It simply offers protection for a specific period of time and will pay out a lump sum in the event of the death of the policy holder within the term stipulated in the policy.
- Whole Life Insurance, a form of Permanent Life insurance, refers to a policy which remains in effect until it matures, or the premiums are no longer paid. It guarantees to pay out a specified sum on the death of the policy holder, whenever that event occurs.
So get life insurance today and know your loved ones will not face financial hardship once you are no longer able to provide for them.
