Picnic Basics
Picnics present an ideal setting for many recreation activities. Not only does the entire family eat and play together, but they also plan and participate as a group in making the event successful. Although picnics, because of their seasonal nature, are only part of a recreation picture, they still constitute a very important part of the operation and function of every recreation agency. The City of Cleveland was a pioneer in offering free picnic-consultant services to groups and organizations seeking advice. Civic and fraternal groups, churches, labor unions, industrial firms, service clubs and private clubs have received, from our Division of Recreation, help in making their picnics successful. Programs are planned to fit the needs and interests of each particular group, game equipment is lent free of charge, maps are provided showing the location of all picnic areas in Greater Cleveland and leaders are provided for picnic groups on a fee basis.
