Starting a mastermind group isn’t difficult but there are certain factors to consider in order to make your group a success.
In its simplest form, a mastermind group is a collection of like-minded people who have decided to meet in order to support each other in reaching their respective goals.
Start Your Own Mastermind Group
Several decisions should be made before starting a mastermind group. Skipping this process can seriously hinder your group’s success.
Here are some of the most questions you should ask yourself:
What are the criteria for membership? Some groups are geared towards members in a specific career or industry while others want members who have a common goal like weight-loss.
How many members will be allowed in the group? A smaller group will generally do better than a larger group. The ideal number is usually around 8-10 participants. However, some groups do very well with as little as 3-5.
How often will you meet? Setting and maintaining a schedule is key to keeping members involved and on track. There can be room for flexibility but in the beginning it’s best to stay as close to the schedule as possible.
How will you meet? With the advent of the internet, you also have the option of choosing “how to meet”. Virtual groups are an option that works well if you live in a small area and need to expand your search. Other groups prefer to meet in person because they feel that they can accomplish more that way.
How will the leadership role be defined? Some masterminds prefer to have a permanent leader and others prefer to rotate the role.
Once these basic questions have been answered then you can begin the recruiting process. Depending on the focus of your mastermind, you can find members at social groups, professional or fraternal organizations, places of worship, and community centers.
A mastermind group is a fulfilling experience which can fast track your personal or professional success. You will find that the work involved in starting a mastermind will be repaid many times over in the relationships, experiences, and knowledge you will acquire.
