For the bride who is selecting her first kitchen equipment we suggest the following as a list to work from. She may not get all of these at first, but it is a list that she will ultimately desire to have for convenience in this new workshop of hers. We have purposely left out the newer pieces that make for actual luxury in work, such as the various new spoons, vegetable slicers, grapefruit knives, fruit parers, butter curlers, etc., etc. The list herewith covers the essentials:


Dish pan and sink strainer.
Egg beater, either hand or electric.
3 aluminum cake pans, round or square, for layer cakes or pies.
3 oblong pans for bread or loaf cake.
Measuring cup, graduated, either of glass or aluminum.
Teakettle (two, if possible) one solely for tea, the other for hot water.
Nest of aluminum kettles
Large roasting pan.
One large and one small frying pan
Large kettle for soup stock or pot roasts.
3 saucepans of varying sizes.
1 long-handled aluminum dipper for mixing cream sauce.
1 set of large muffin pans, one very small set.
Colander, strainer, and straining spoon.
Bread knife, two paring knives, an opener, corkscrew
Sharp carving knife.
Dish mop, floor mops, brooms and dusters, oil mop.
Chopping bowl.
Double boiler.
Dust pan and long-handled brush.
Funnel and salt and pepper shakers.
Bread and cake box (provided there be no kitchen cabinet).
Dish drainer, wire.
Set of jars or canisters for coffee, tea, spices, etc., (if without a cabinet).
Sink garbage container, sink brush and shovel.
Rolling pin and breadboard.
Waste basket.
1 set measuring spoons.
Set of mixing bowls, all sizes.
Flour sifter (if without a cabinet).
Kitchen scales.
An aluminum set that contains all other kettles, pans, etc. This is sold in sets by large department stores for as low as $20.
Stool and stepladder combined.
Kitchen forks, long and short handled.
Asbestos-lined pads for removing ho pans from oven.
At least two dozen of each of the following: Dish cloths, glass towels, plain towels, and either roller or regular kitchen hand towels.
In addition to the above, all the electrical equipment possible: percolator, waffle iron, flatiron, toaster, grills, etc.
