The cabinet is finished with enamel in the same manner as the other cabinets. Linoleum is cemented to the top and to the back; edging goes on the front of the top panel and on the top edge of the back member. The cove molding is applied to the corner made by the back and top.
Kitchen Utility Cabinet Holds Brooms And Supplies
MANY HOME owners insist that no kitchen cabinet scheme is complete unless it includes a broom closet. Others find it just as convenient to store brooms on cellar stairway landings or in other places. For those who need the storage cabinet, however, the accompanying plans will be welcome. As with each of the other cabinets this one can be built and installed as a separate unit, or it may be incorporated into a group of other units. The cabinet is designed for division into two compartments, a lower section for the storage of brooms and dust mops and an upper cabinet suitable for storage of cleaning materials. If shelf storage is desired in place of a broom closet, all that is required for the conversion is the installation of shelves and dowel pins. The elevation drawing, Fig. 1, and the sketch of Fig. 6 show holes bored in the lower compartment to take the shelf support pins. It is advisable to bore these holes when the cabinet is under construction even though the unit is intended as a broom closet. The installation of pins and shelves will then convert the broom closet to a full-length storage closet at some future date.
The broom cabinet has an overall height of 7' 2" which will bring the top of the cabinet in line with the top of the wall cabinets. The depth is 22" which is the same as the depth of the lower cabinet units. The width of this cabinet is optional. It can be constructed to fit a space 18'', 20" or 24" wide depending on the space available for the unit. When the width of cabinet has been decided upon, the next step is to cut the stock to the required sizes. From the bill of materials, the thickness and width of each piece and the key letter for identification can be obtained. The length of each member may vary with the different cabinet sizes; therefore, this measurement will be found under the headings listing the different cabinet widths. It should be noticed particularly that the thickness and length of the upper and lower doors, as well as of the back panel, do not vary for the different widths of cabinets, but the widths of these members will change with the different cabinet sizes.
