The drawer fronts which are labeled (DA), (DF) and (DI) are to be joined to the drawer sides by means of a dado, rabbet and tongue joint, the rabbet and tongue being cut on each end of the drawer front The detail sketch of the drawer front in Fig. 6 gives dimensions for setting up the bench saw.
The drawer backs which are marked (DC), (DH) and (DL) are joined to the side members by means of a dado and rabbet joint, the rabbet being cut on each end of the drawer back. A 3/4" x 3/4" dado is cut on the lower edge of the back member at the center to permit this piece to ride over the drawer guide.
The drawer sides (DB), (DG) and (DJ) have a 1/8" x 1/8" dado cut across the inside face 1/4" from one end to take the tongue on the drawer front members. The sides also have a 1/4" x 1/4" dado cut across the same face 3/4" from the back to take the back member.
Each drawer member has a 1/4" x 1/4" groove cut along the inside face to take the bottom panel. This groove is placed 3/4" from the lower edge. The front member has a 3/8" x 3/8" rabbet cut along the upper edge on the inside face to produce the lip on the upper edge of the drawer front The outside edges and ends of the drawer fronts should be molded to conform with the drawers and doors of the other cabinets. Drawers are assembled with glue and 11/2" brads.
The top (U) is fastened to the cabinet by driving 11/4" No. 8 flathead screws through the cleats (S) and (R) and into the underside of the top. Holes will have to be bored and countersunk in the cleat members to take the screws. The back member (V) is fastened to the back edge of the top member with 11/2" No. 8 flathead screws.
