The two doors have 3/8" x 3/8" rabbets cut on the ends and the outside edges while the edges of these doors that meet at the center have3/8 x 1/2" rabbets. The left hand door (DKL) has the rabbet cut on the outside face while the right-hand door (DKR) has the rabbet cut on the inside face. The edges and ends are molded on the outside face to conform with the other drawer fronts.
The doors should be hung in place with any style of hinge desired. The door catch and latch as well as the drawer pulls and the cutting board pull should also be applied. These should be removed later when painting the cabinet.
The pot cover rack which is to be fastened to the inside surface of the door is made up as shown in the detail sketch. The side members (HC) are dadoed to take the bottom member (HA). These side pieces are shaped as shown in the drawing. The rack is assembled with brads and is then fastened on the door with screws.
The top (U) is set in place so as to come within 3/4" of the cabinet back. This space is to be taken up by the back member (V) as shown in the drawing. Wood screws 11/4" long are driven up through the top cleats (R) and (S) as well as through the back rail (L) into the top (U). The back (V) is fastened to the top with 11/2" No. 8 wood screws driven through the back member and into the edge of the top member.
The cabinet should be painted to match others of the group. After it has been finished, the edging, linoleum covering and the cove molding are applied to the top and back. If the cabinet is to be set up as a single unit and not incorporated into a larger unit, additional edging should be mitered and applied to the ends of the top and back members.
Pull-Out Step Added to Cabinet
THE handy pull-out step shown here will end the search for a step ladder when you want something from that high cupboard shelf. When not in use it is pushed back out of the way. It can be built into old cupboards as well as new.
The step shown is made of 3/4 x 53/4" stock 18" long. The supports (A) and (B) are made of 3/4x13/4" stock 18" to 24" long with a 7/8" x 57/8" dado cut in the upper edge of each piece to hold the step. They are fastened to the underside of the shelf with 13/4" No. 10 flathead screws. Support (A) is flush with the front edge of the shelf, and (B) is located 7" in back of (A).
