How To Build Modern Kitchen Cabinets

When each slot has been located in this manner they all are cut on the jig saw and finished to a smooth edge with a file and sandpaper. The spacers are made of 3/8" square strips that measure 1/2 less in length than the width of the rack. The spacers are fastened to the rack with glue and 1/2" brads.

When completed, the rack may be stained and varnished, or it may be painted to match the finish of the cabinet in which it is to be installed. The rack is fastened to the underside of the cabinet shelf with 1" No. 6 flathead screws. Holes should be bored and countersunk in the rack to take the screws. Two screws placed in every other spacer will be sufficient to hold the rack in place and support all the glasses it will hold.

The addition of one or more stemware racks to kitchen or dining room cabinets will assure the safety of valued glasses and will conserve on space by making the shelves under the suspended glasses available for plates.

Easy Way to Curb Rattling Door

WHEN doors start rattling without apparent cause, the trouble usually can be traced to warpage of the door or to settling of the house. A warped door fails to contact the door stop. Settling may cause the latch to engage the strike plate loosely. Either condition contributes to a noisy door, and either is correctable by the simple method illustrated. Rubberheaded nails driven in the stile or in the door stop will take up the play and silence the rattle.

Kitchen Wall Cabinets In One And Two-Door Models

THESE kitchen wall cabinets are suitable companion pieces for the series of floor cabinets presented on preceding pages, but they also will be found adaptable in any existing kitchen scheme. The design permits construction in widths ranging from 16" to 36" depending on the available space.

The cabinets have a depth of 14" and a height of 36". When they are being hung they should be placed so that the top of the cabinet will be 7' 2" above the floor. At this height the top of the wall cabinets will be in line with the full-length cabinets which will appear on following pages.
