An All-Electric Kitchen

In this generous-sized all-electric kitchen, the conventional U-shape is again used. This time, the washer is at the end of the U, next to the rear door. The dining space is concentrated at the far end of the room, across the traffic flow. Note the unusually generous number of outlets to provide good lighting and convenient outlets for appliances. A pass-through to the dining room is also a convenience which saves many steps in serving a meal.

Planning Electric Wiring For The Kitchen

An adequately wired kitchen is well lighted, but not necessarily expensive or elaborate. Outlets should be located so that fixtures provide sufficient light where needed. Sufficient convenience outlets or plug-in outlets should be provided so that an extension cord is never required in order to use lamps, clock, radio, or kitchen appliances. A receptacle outlet should be provided for each 20 lineal feet, or major fraction of the circumference of a room. Some standards recommend a receptacle for each 12 feet of wall, especially in the kitchen.
