Carpet Laying And Estimating Website

ESTIMATING AMOUNT OF PADDING REQUIRED

The subject of Padding is covered fully in Chapter 7. It is sufficient for the present purpose to note that whereas with carpet, waste is an important economic factor that can mean success or failure of a job, with padding waste is a minor factor, inasmuch as the small cut-off pieces can be used for fills. Padding yardage should, according to most carpet mechanics, equal carpet yardage, so that when you've estimated for carpet you've already done the job for padding. The exception is that you can save on padding in many ways, such as on stairs, etc., by using all sorts of leftover scraps, something you can't do with carpet!

ESTIMATING AMOUNT OF TACKLESS STRIP REQUIRED

The amount of tackless strip (see Chapter 8) required for each job is an important item in any estimate of carpet laying, since so much of it is used for wall-to-wall carpeting today that it has become a sizable cost factor.
