Carpet Laying And Estimating Website

Carpet Provides Comfort. The natural or physical properties of carpet make it an ideal '"shock absorber" in walking, standing, and working. The springy pile banishes the jars and jolts resulting from the pounding of heels on bare or hard-surfaced floors. When you step on carpet in your home or office, you feel as though you were walking on a thick, soft lawn or forest path carpeted with pine needles. Every member of the family enjoys this foot-easing comfort of carpet. The busy housewife feels better, accomplishes more during the day; baby takes his first steps —and his first tumbles—on the cushiony comfort of soft carpet. The man of the house finds that carpet gives an added form of relaxation after a day's work. Children play in greater comfort on carpet—and with less jarring noise.

Carpet for Safety. By reducing the danger of slips and falls, or minimizing the seriousness of such accidents when they occur, carpet protects the entire family and reduces worry, especially about infants and old people. The National Safety Council reports that many accidents in the home are the result of slipping on bare floors and stairs. Babies and toddlers have difficulty keeping their balance on a slippery floor, and elderly people are no less vulnerable. Wall-to-wall carpet on floors and stairs is one of the greatest safeguards against falls in the home, since it gives sure footing and prevents slipping. And when a person does trip over a toy or other object, carpet makes the results less serious by cushioning the fall. In addition, with carpet there is no danger of splinters or floor burns.

Carpet Is Easier to Maintain. A well-known firm of business housekeeping experts recently conducted extensive studies to determine the relative costs of maintaining carpeted versus noncarpeted floors in hotel lobbies, department stores, offices, reception rooms, corridors, and other business or public areas subjected to considerable traffic. The results of these studies proved conclusively that carpeted floors cost less to maintain than noncarpeted floors under any and all use conditions. Under heaviest traffic and "soil" conditions, the maintenance savings with carpeted floors was greatest, ranging from 50.7 per cent in heavy conditions to 42 per cent in light conditions.

In the home, carpet requires only one cleaning operation—a quick once-over with a vacuum cleaner or carpet sweeper. The pile of a carpet keeps loose dirt or soil "high" on top of the carpet, where it is easily removed. Moreover, dirt carried into the house is localized by carpet, whereas bare or hard-surface floors permit dirt to be tracked from room to room. Carpet reduces or eliminates need for floor scrubbing, waxing, polishing or sanding, staining, painting, shellacking, or other professional care and treatment. Periodic home cleaning methods using dry-cleaning solvent or wet-cleaning detergents are required only about once a year for the average home. Wall-to-wall carpeting is just as easy to clean as ordinary carpets and rugs, since it can be cleaned on the floor at home economically by a professional cleaner.
