Basement Hobby Corner

THIS MOST ATTRACTIVE GAME-ROOM CORNER DOES NOT NEED TO BE BUILT IN CONJUNCTION WITH A STAIRWAY AND DARKROOM, BUT WHEREVER IT IS BUILT IT WILL SURELY BE A FOCAL point for the family at ease.

The free-standing walls are made of 3/4" thick plywood covered on the outside with fiber plank to match the other walls. The lower part below the counter height, as well as the wainscot on the stairway, is covered with linoleum Monowall. The counters are of plywood, as are also the shelves and partitions.

The base has a setback of 2" as shown in the drawing. Furring strips on both ceiling and wall are spaced 1 2" apart. The dropped panel of fiber plank which hides the lights and the movie screen is reinforced on the lower edge and at the corners with a 1 x 2 strip.

Attic Hobby Room

FOR ANY FAMILY WITH CREATIVE INTERESTS, AN ATTIC HOBBY ROOM IS INVALUABLE. THE SKEIN WINDER IS FOR ANYONE WHO KNITS OR WEAVES. THERE IS A COMFORTABLE DIVAN, shelves for books and radio, a puppet stage and an artist's easel. Most of the construction details will have to be adapted to the space and other variables.

THESE CABINETS WERE BUILT IN A GARAGE TO SUPPLEMENT THE STORAGE SPACE IN THE HOUSE, BUT THEY COULD AS WELL BE BUILT IN THE BASEMENT. IF THE CABINET IS INTENDED for holding canned goods, preserves or soft drinks, the garage should be heated unless you live in a frost-free area.
