The wall behind the berth is papered with nautical charts. These can be bought for the same price as wallpaper and the U. S. Coast and Geodetic Survey or the Hydrographic Office of the Navy Department in Washington, D. C, will supply you with information on how you can obtain nautical charts of your favorite coastline. Prints of sailing ships, navigating instruments, clocks, lanterns and other seagoing gear can be found everywhere, either old or new reproductions. Pillows and bedspreads can be of sailcloth with rope piping, and windows can be curtained with fishnet weighted with cork floats. Almost every boy has made at least one ship model that will fill a place of honor over the closet. THE HANDY SHELF-DOOR ARRANGEMENT GIVES YOU CONVENIENT STORAGE SPACE FOR JEWELRY, ACCESSORIES AND OTHER SMALL ITEMS. DOORS ALSO HOLD SHOE RACK AND
The storage space above the closet is variable in height as it should reach to the ceiling. The bracket which supports the one end is jigsawed in the shape of a knee such as would be used to reinforce the angle between the deck and the side of a ship. Nail this to the wall at the same height as that of the closet.
Sliding panels of 3/6' hardboard close in the front of the compartment. These have pierced cut-outs in the shape of sea horses which act as finger grasps. The design is enlarged from the drawings by means of graph squares and cut out on the jig saw. The double tracks in which the panels slide are available in sets that have a shallow channel on the bottom and a deep channel on the top. This permits the tracks to be fastened in place and the panels installed or removed merely by lifting. Polished brass channels which are identical top and bottom can also be used and these will be very attractive, but in this case panels and channels must be installed together.
Shelf-Door Wardrobe
The illustration shows the wardrobe used in a bedroom, but you can use it to virtually double storage space in any room. It can be used singly or in pairs. One can be for "her" things and one for "his." A large mirror and a shelf between two of these units make a built-in vanity.
