Double-Deck Bunks And Storage

books

EVEN IF YOU DON'T HAVE TWO BOYS WHO SHARE A BEDROOM, AN EXTRA BED IS OFTEN VERY HANDY FOR PUTTING UP A GUEST OVERNIGHT. THIS ANGLED ARRANGEMENT IS MUCH MORE interesting than the usual stacked bunks, and the inclusion of storage space is a very desirable feature. The top of the chest of drawers makes a bedside table for the upper bunk. The sliding panels in the back section enclose shelf space that can be used for magazines, books, playthings or clothing.

The sizes shown are for a 39" single-width mattress and spring. This can be reduced to take a smaller size if desired. The spring rests on the angle iron, which is screwed onto the side rails. The drawers are graduated in depth and the upper one has an additional rabbet on the upper edge of the front to cover the top of the chest.
