The hanging cupboard must be securely fastened to the ceiling as the weight of the dishes plus the weight of the cupboard itself is considerable. As shown, 2 x 4's are fastened with lag screws to the ceiling joists, and the carcase of the cupboard is nailed to them. All of the doors and drawers have lips which act also as stops.
The jigsawed design around the inside edges of the glazed doors is cut in the glass bead on the inside of the door which holds the glass in place There is a 1/4" x 3/8" rabbet on the inside edges of the door stiles and rails and the joints have two stiles and rails. The apparent discrepancy between the lengths of the two sides of the counter and the cupboard is accounted for by the existing cabinets against which the peninsula is built.

Shelves and drawers in various sizes can be fitted into any or all of the three compartments in any combination. Any proportion of the space can be utilized for hanging garments. Drawings show three of an almost endless number of combinations. In two of them a dressing table with a large mirror has been included. In the average bedroom no other storage space should be needed.
This built-in has been designed to reach to the ceiling. This not only increases the storage space, but makes for a simpler and less cluttered design, which is a met desirable feature in modern arrangement. Cupboards that stop short of the ceiling are sure to have the space above them used for storage anyway with a resulting untidy appearance. This space is also very difficult to keep free of dust.
