To form a sturdy trunk, tic vines to the top of two wires fastened horizontally about 18 inches apart, one over the other. Early in the following spring select two pencil sized canes near the middle of your wire supports. Train one cane from each side of the main stem onto the wire, cutting each of them back to ten or twelve buds. Repeat this process for the other wire. Your reducing the number of canes greatly strengthens those remaining, and increases both the quality and quantity of fruit available for home use.
Indoor Planting
HOUSE PLANTS play an important role in modern living. Properly used, they add freshness and beauty to the interior scheme and often serve as the transition from indoors to outdoors. Inside planters are often incorporated in the construction of many modern homes.
Success in growing healthy house plants is not a matter of luck. Rather, it requires considerable thought and careful choice of plants suitable for indoor culture. They must then be provided with an environment conducive to their well-being. This includes sufficient light, proper humidity, well drained soil of good quality and correct watering.
No factor is more important to the growth of plants than light. Place plants as close to a window as possible. If this is impractical, artificial illumination may be substituted. Strong lights will maintain the interesting effects of coloring, texture and design in foliage plants.
Plants always turn toward light and will soon grow onc-sided if the containers are not turned occasionally. In large stationary planters it is especially important to consider the lighting arrangement. Some artificial lighting may be required to beep plant growth from becoming stunted or distorted.
High temperatures and low humidity are the worst enemies of house plants. Violent fluctuations in the temperature of a room where plants are grown should be avoided. Plants breathe through their leaves and you should keep them free of dust and dirt. Wash foliage at regular intervals using a plant syringe. Washing also helps to raise humidity around the plant and its container.
