The much smaller home (C) is next door to B. Here attractive wooden fence and g.ite are valuable in lengthening the house. What seems to be tract plantings are already growing wild and within a short time will totally ruin any use of the front windows. The lawn is completely dead and would need a full renovation to restore its previous beauty.
Nestling between C and E is the sad little house pictured in D. Builder-supplied plant materials seem to have survived in spite of themselves. Otherwise landscaping activities have come to a complete halt. At least there is nothing to undo and a whole program could be planned from scratch.
House E begins to repeat the pattern of builder supplied plant materials filled in with other shrubs and flowers. Trimming is already needed for some of the shrubs. Hiding the foundation vents would be easy by moving several of the nearby plains. Vertical posts at the left offer a line chance for colorful vines and the house steps could be relieved with potted plants.
Some landscaping program! are like Top-sy. They just "growed." First a low shrubs and some lawn. Then a hedge and picket fence. A porch is added, small potted plants, stepping stones, more potted plants, a circular hedge and still other potted plants. None of these add to the homelike atmosphere we would all like to create in the rear of our home.
Other homes seem to possess a natural quiet quality of comfort and charm that beckons the weary. The simple patio creates an impression of relaxation with good friends, while a grape stake fence and plant materials provide the feeling of privacy so conducive to easy and thoughtful conversation. Shady nook is for reading or picnics. You could have either type of home. One requires nothing more than a strong back. The other resulted from pre-planned landscaping which successfully reached an objective of comfortable appreciation.
