Paint Sprayers
Once you learn how, spray painting can be four times faster
Although use of brush and/or roller is the more common method of home painting, many homeowner-painters have found that they can eliminate much of the drudgery involved in using these tools and do an excellent job with spraying equipment. A spray gun offers certain advantages which conventional paint applicators do not.
ADVANTAGES OF SPRAY PAINTING
1. Spraying, if you are proficient at it, cuts the time of painting many times over again. For example, a four hour brush job can often be done in as little as one hour.
2. Spraying, if you are proficient at it, is easier. It eliminates the need for stooping, dipping, daubing, stroking, brushing out. and crisscrossing.
3. Spraying, if you are proficient at it, allows a more uniform paint job. The coating which is laid down is smoother, more even, and free of lap marks which often characterize use of a brush.
DISADVANTAGES OF SPRAY PAINTING
Note the qualification, "if you are proficient at it." Unless you practice handling a spray gun before spraying on the finish work, you can literally make a mess of the job and of yourself. In addition, you must be able to make the proper equipment adjustments and be able to correctly thin out the paint. Another drawback to use of spray equipment is the initial outlay of money. An adequate compressor (1/3 horsepower is usually recommended for home painting chores), spray gun, nozzles, and necessary hoses will cost from $40 to $60.
