(3) Suspend piping properly to prevent sagging.
(4) Install fixture branches to drain into or away from fixture.

k. When planning pipe locations —

( 1) Provide proper access to all piping.
(2) Keep hot and cold pipes separated so temperature of one cannot affect temperature of the other.

l. Cut, thread, and join threaded pipe as explained in paragraph 8.
m. Install control valves in water lines as follows:

(1) Provide control valve at entry point of each service main into building.
(2) Provide each group of fixtures with a control , valve for repair purposes.
(3) Provide a separate valve for each fixture or isolated item of apparatus not otherwise controlled.

n. If cold-water piping is exposed to variable room temperatures which may cause condensation, cover pipe with antisweat insulation.
o. Install necessary hot-water supply lines to serve fixtures requiring hot water.

(1) If an extensive hot-water supply is installed, insulate piping to save fuel and water.
(2) Install a hot-water circulating line when length of hot-water piping from hot-water storage tank to most remote fixture exceeds too feet.

p. Install heaters and storage tanks as described in TM 5-648 (when published).
q. Install plumbing fixtures in accordance with general instructions below and detailed instructions in OCE Specifications CE-35 and PE-623. (See app. I.)

(1) When closed-front or back type water-closet seats need repairs, replace them with cantonment type shown on drawing PE-600—623.1, Equipment Specification PE-623.
(2) Locate all plumbing fixtures so they are accessible for cleaning.
(3) When practicable, extend all pipes from fixtures to wall.
(4) Set fixtures level to permit complete draining.
(5) After installation, clean fixtures carefully.

(a) To remove paint, apply mineral spirits vigorously, sand lightly and carefully with No. 3/0 sandpaper, then apply mineral spirits.
(b) When using drain pipe solvents, keep solvent away from enameled or finished surfaces.

(r) If fixture is stained by water containing iron oxide and other minerals, remove stains immediately and repair dripping faucets. (See par, 19e)
