Plumbing Repairs And Utilities

(c) Clean all solids from bottoms of interceptors, using any ordinary strainer. Entire contents of interceptors need not l)e bailed out.

(2) Grease traps. Never connect outside grease traps to soil and waste lines from toilet rooms because they are designed to serve kitchen plumbing fixtures and equipment only. Insure efficient functioning by cleaning them at least weekly. Since accumulated putrescible solids cause septic action within a relatively short time, remove all solids each time traps are cleaned. Clean outside grease traps as follows:
(a) Using an ordinary perforated sewer scoop, skim grease from surface of trap and place it in suitable containers for salvage.
(b) Remove as much putrescible material as pos- sible with same scoop. Treat this refuse as nonedible refuse.
(c) If necessary, pump out liquid contents from traps every 3 months and remove all sediment from side walls and bottom.

b. HAIR TRAPS. Install hair traps in waste connections from lavatories of hair-dressing shops provided for WAC personnel. These traps are manufactured with baffled partitions and screens to keep hair, lint, etc., out of waste lines. Clean traps frequently to insure satisfactory service.

c. PLASTER TRAPS. Tnstall piaster traps in waste connections to sinks in hospitals, laboratories, industrial plants, and other places where plaster of paris and other insoluble materials are used. These traps keep foreign material from waste lines. Remove accumulated material from traps frequently.

d. GASOLINE AND OIL INTERCEPTORS. Gasoline and oils accumulating in sewers may cause explosions and destroy sewer lines or treatment plant. They also interfere with proper operation of the plant. Install gasoline and oil interceptors, built on the same principal as grease interceptors, to remove this hazard. Skim gasoline and oil from the trap at regular intervals.
